Kirtland, Ohio – August 7-10
The reunion began with registration and get-acquainted reception in the cultural hall of the LDS Stake Center. The opening session of the reunion was held the next morning at the same Stake Center. Time was also given to explore the city where their progenitors lived from 1831 to 1838.
Friday evening the family attended a musical and oral presentation inside the Kirtland Temple. The gathering of the Smith Family in the Temple has always highlighted the Kirtland reunion.
Saturday morning everyone met in the Hiram Ward Meetinghouse where special entertainment was a good prelude to touring the John Johnson Home where Joseph Jr. and Emma Smith lived, 1831-1832. The group also visited the Lorenzo Snow Home and Pioneer Cemetery in close Mantua Township.
Not far from Hiram/Mantua is the Amish community of Middlefield. This was the location of the family Banquet which was held in Mary Yoder’s Amish Kitchen.
Sunday morning the family portrait was taken. Then a memorial service and wreath placing ceremony in the adjoining cemetery.
