Nauvoo, Illinois – August 5-8
The reunion officially began on Thursday, August 5 in the evening with registration. The next morning (Friday, August 6) presentations were presented and information given out. Time was given to tour and visit with one another. Friday evening, the Smith family was invited to sit in an area together during the outdoor pageant, City of Joseph.
Saturday (August 7) the family assembled again for additional speeches and instruction. In the late afternoon, the Smith’s attended their banquet at the Hotel Nauvoo. After dinner everyone enjoyed a musical drama about old Nauvoo in the restored LDS Cultural Hall.
Sunday morning (August 8) a memorial service and wreath placing ceremony will take place at the Smith Family Cemetery where Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith are buried along with many other family members.
After the cemetery devotional was concluded, the group traveled twenty-four miles southeast of Nauvoo to the LDS Carthage Visitors’ Center. The restored jail and memorial gardens was the perfect setting for a special program presented by Actor Ted Gibbons.
